Connor from Poole writes to ask for ideas and tips on green shoes and I feel obliged to answer his email. Why? Well because I am the proud owner of a pair of limited edition Worn Again shoes. The style I purchased, and am wearing on the train home whilst writing this post are called: The Bigger Shoe and were a special shoe created to celebrate the 15th anniversary of The Big Issue magazine.
Worn Again are definitely a top recommendation as they combine style with sustainability without sacrificing quality or demanding huge premiums. In fact my trusty paid of Worn Agains (my second pair no less, my first pair were the Jack Military style, see image above) cost me only £65 if I recall which is way less than a pair of decent trainers produced god knows where and god knows how.
The shoes themselves are made from recycled materials and the Military Jack pictured above is made from army blankets, old buttons, in-car leather for the outer, rubber for the soles and denim and t-shirts for the inners. I kid you not. And they are very comfy.
But there is much more choice out there if you know where to look. I recommend checking out Vegetarian Shoes & Ethical Wares and it would be remiss of me to not mention the fab new spring footwear available from my employer, Natural Collection. Check out our hemp and recycled tyre sandals for men and women (got a pair on my next shopping list already) and our hemp holly shoes for gals.
Hope that helps Connor.
Keep it green
Until next time
Al
